First rule of being a good customer. Be nice.
Second rule of being a good customer. Oh... Yeah. It's be nice.
While on vacation here in Playa del Carmen, Mexico I am surrounded by people from all over the world. Rude people, d-bag kids just wanting to party, rich adults thinking they are better than everyone, cougars hitting on all the bartenders and wait staff, couples on their honeymoons/vacations... and then us (and maybe a few other NICE people, but from my viewpoint, nice people are in the minority).
In an all inclusive it is ALL about how you treat the staff. The nicer you are, or the more you tip - the quicker your drinks come, the more they refill your water (I drink a LOT).
In case I need to go into more detail about what being nice means... It means:
- Saying please and thank you.
- Being empathic towards the wait staff.
- Being reasonable about the situation. If the staff is super busy, don't expect them to drop everything to cater to you.
- Put your phone down when you are talking to people...
Where there is an obvious language barrier, a smile is a still a sign of friendliness. And it gets you far. Also - you are in freaking paradise. What's NOT to smile about?!?
